Dove Gardens
The redevelopment of Dove Gardens stands both as a tribute to the determination and resolve of the local community and as an example of the real benefits that can be delivered through genuine community – statutory partnership.
The fact that the redevelopment is taking place at all is the result of a campaign by Dove Garden’s residents and their neighbours to remove the troublesome 73 maisonette complex and replace it with proper housing. The shape of the development is the result of the first prospective Health Impact Assessment of a housing development in Ireland, and a continuous and ongoing partnership between the community, statutory agencies and first NIHE, and latterly North & West Housing.
The new Dove Gardens sees the replacement of 73 flats and maisonettes with 63 house units. In real terms it is the provision of first class, modern, family friendly life time homes in one of the most disadvantaged areas of Derry City.
