Arts in the Community
Arts in the Community is a ten week course which is theory based. The learning centres on participant understanding of the key aims of community arts work, practice and methods. The aim of the module is to establish a full understanding of the target groups, art forms and benefits of arts in the community including how projects and events can be funded, marketed and evaluated. Sample events and projects are discussed in a group situation with participants developing project and event ideas that highlight their understanding of arts in the community.
From Apollo group discussions the idea was derived that the group should be involved in this community project. In January 2010, The Apollo Project advertised for an artist to work with participants to design and produce features to enhance the entrance to Dove Gardens. Dennis Magee, an experienced artist, has come on board with Apollo and will host various workshops to consult with local residents to gain feedback and their opinions. Apollo participants who are currently working towards Arts in the Community (NOCN Level 2) developed this community project as an element for their accreditation.
